How VECL Chennai works

VECL is a franchise T20 league. VECL Chennai Season 1 is played on Sundays from 10 January to 25 April 2027 by four league-owned clubs, in eight age bands: U12, U14, U16, U18 and Senior, and Girls U14, Girls U18 and Women as a competition of their own.

It is the same league as the three franchises in Melbourne, run from the Elite Cricket Academy in Medavakkam.

Registering

Registrations are taken in the Elite app, not on a form, so each registration is attached to your account and you can see where it stands. Open the VECL tile, make sure VECL Chennai is selected, tell us about the player and choose their selection day, then pay ₹250 by UPI or card.

The registration is complete once the ₹250 is paid. Registering does not guarantee a place. Registrations close on 22 November 2026.

Selection day

Selection days are Sunday 6 and 13 December 2026. Bring the player's cricket kit, including a helmet with a faceguard, and arrive about 30 minutes before the start. Batting, bowling and fielding are all watched and scored, with two selectors from the Melbourne league on the panel.

The panel's decision is final. Offers go out from 26 December, and everyone who registers hears back either way. If you want to understand a decision, ask us and we will tell you honestly.

Clubs and the draft

Players are drafted, not signed. The panel drafts selected players across the four clubs — Sholinganallur Falcons, Medavakkam Eagles, Velachery Warriors and Perungudi Panthers — band by band, so that no club is stacked. Families do not choose a club, and we do not take requests. A player keeps their club for the whole season.

Siblings in different bands are a separate matter: tell us and we will keep them at the same ground where the draw allows it.

Costs and kit

Registering costs ₹250 per player. It pays for the team selection day — the ground, the officials and the panel's time.

The league provides the playing shirt. Everything a player wears for their own protection is the family's to supply: a helmet with a faceguard that fits, pads, batting gloves and an abdominal guard for batting, keeping gloves and pads for a wicket-keeper, and proper cricket footwear. If the cost of equipment is what stands between a player and a season, tell us before you decide against registering.

Match days and weather

Matches are on Sundays in Chennai. Play starts between 8am and 10am and runs through to about 6.30pm. The ground will be announced once it is signed, and we tell every registered family directly when anything changes.

Chennai in March and April is hot. Officials may shorten an innings, extend a break, move a start time or stop play when conditions are unsafe — send every player with more water than you think they need. The calendar carries two spare Sundays for washouts.

Health and injuries

Tell us when you register about anything a coach would need to know in a hurry — asthma, allergies, diabetes, epilepsy, a heart condition, a recent concussion — and tell us if it changes. If a player is hurt and we cannot reach you quickly, we will get them the medical help they need and keep trying to reach you.

A player who takes a blow to the head comes off and does not go back on that day, and returns only when a doctor says so, in writing. Keep an unwell player at home.

Supervision

A player is in your care until they are handed to a coach at the ground, and again from the end of their commitments that day. We are not a drop-off service. If a player needs to leave early, tell the team's coach in person. Getting to and from the ground is the family's; league staff do not transport players.

Coaching happens in the open, where it can be seen. Staff do not message players privately — anything that needs saying goes to the parent's number on the registration.

Photographs and streaming

Every match is streamed live on YouTube and Facebook and the recordings stay up, so players on the field appear in the stream.

Photographs are covered by two separate consents: a coaching record, seen by the player's coaches and family, and public use on this website, in the app and on the league's social media. One does not imply the other. You can withdraw either at any time from your account in the app or by writing to us, and if a published photograph should come down, email us — you do not need to give a reason.

Proof of age

At enrolment we sight a proof of age — an Aadhaar, a school ID, a birth certificate or a passport. We record that it was checked and by whom. We do not record the number, and we do not keep a copy or a photograph of the document.

How we keep in touch

Registration, payment and selection updates are in the Elite app and by email, and you can follow every stage of a registration in the app. Questions go to saravanan@elitecricketacademy.co.in or info@elitecricketacademy.co.in, or call +91 93846 63776.

We never take a payment over the phone and never ask for card details by message.

Refunds

The ₹250 is not refundable, including when a player is not selected, is taken out at the family's request, or does not attend their selection day.

If VECL cancels — a selection day that does not run, or a season that does not start — the fee for it is refunded. A selection day lost to weather is rescheduled to the reserve Sunday, and refunded if it cannot run at all.

The road to Melbourne

We intend to select two players from every age band in Season 1 — 10 to 15 players in all — to play in the VECL tournament in Melbourne in December 2027. The league pays for accommodation, match fees and an Elite staff member who travels with them; the family pays for flights, the visa and spending money.

It is an intention, not a guarantee, and travel depends on an Australian visa being granted, which is decided by the Australian government.

Raising a concern

Email saravanan@elitecricketacademy.co.in or info@elitecricketacademy.co.in, or call +91 93846 63776. We acknowledge it, look into it, and tell you what we found.

Anything about a child's safety goes straight to the League Director and is dealt with immediately. If a matter belongs with the police or a child protection authority, we report it.
