Every player registered for VECL Chennai Season 1 gets a team selection day: a Sunday in front of the selection panel. This post explains what that day involves, so players and families know what to expect.
The dates
The selection days are Sunday 6 December and Sunday 13 December 2026. You choose your preferred Sunday when you register, and we confirm the day, the time and the ground by email. A third selection day, on Sunday 20 December, runs only if it is needed.
The selection-day ground is sent to registered families as soon as it is announced.
Who is watching
The selection panel includes two selectors from the Melbourne league, who come to Chennai in December for the selection days.
What to bring
- The player's cricket kit
- A helmet with a faceguard, which must fit properly
- Pads, batting gloves and an abdominal guard for batting, and keeping gloves and pads for a wicket-keeper
- Proper cricket footwear
- More water than you think they will need
When to arrive
Please arrive about 30 minutes before the start. That gives time to check in, settle and warm up, rather than walking straight from the car onto the field.
What happens on the day
Batting, bowling and fielding are all watched and scored. Turning up and taking part is what makes a player trialled; the panel can only select players it has seen.
A player is in their family's care until they are handed to a coach at the ground, and again once their commitments for the day are finished. Selection day is not a drop-off service, so please plan to stay or arrange for another responsible adult to be there.
If anything about the player's health has changed since you registered, tell us before the day. A player who takes a blow to the head comes off and does not go back on that day, and returns only when a doctor says so, in writing.
If the weather intervenes
A selection day lost to weather is rescheduled to the reserve Sunday. If it cannot run at all, the ₹250 is refunded.
After the selection days
The panel meets after the last selection day. It picks the squads and drafts the selected players across the four clubs, one age band at a time, balancing them so that no club is stacked.
Offers go out from 26 December. Everyone who registers hears back either way, including if there is no place this season, so nobody is left wondering. Selected players confirm their place in the Elite app, and squads are final on 5 January 2027, ahead of Round 1 on Sunday 10 January.
About the panel's decisions
The panel's decision is final. That said, if you want to understand why a decision went the way it did, ask us, and we will tell you honestly. A complaint cannot reverse a selection decision, but you are always entitled to an explanation.
If you have not registered yet
Registrations close on 22 November 2026, and the selection day is booked in the same step as registering. The form is at vecl.in/register, and the fee is ₹250 per player.
Tomorrow we introduce the four clubs the selected players will be drafted into. For any questions about selection day, email info@elitecricketacademy.co.in or call or WhatsApp +91 93846 63776.
