A parents' guide to VECL Chennai

1 November 2026

When you register a player, you agree to the league policies. They are written in plain language at vecl.in/policies, and we would encourage every family to read them once. This post pulls out the parts parents ask about most.

Fees and refunds

Registering costs ₹250 per player, paid by UPI or card through Razorpay when you submit the form. It pays for the team selection day: the ground, the officials and the panel's time.

The fee is not refunded when a player is not selected, is taken out at the family's request, or does not attend their selection day. If VECL cancels, whether a selection day that does not run or a season that does not start, the fee is refunded.

We never take a payment over the phone and never ask for card details by message.

Weather

Matches depend on the weather. A match abandoned to weather is not guaranteed a replay; the calendar carries two spare Sundays to absorb washouts, and once those are used the result stands as the competition rules provide.

A selection day lost to weather is different. It is rescheduled to the reserve Sunday, and if it cannot run at all, the ₹250 is refunded.

Safety and health

Cricket is a hard-ball sport, and knocks and injuries are part of the game at every level. A few things matter a great deal:

  • Tell us about medical conditions when you register, and tell us if anything changes. We cannot act on what we were not told
  • If a player is hurt and we cannot reach you quickly, we will get them the medical help they need and keep trying to reach you
  • A player who takes a blow to the head comes off and does not go back on that day, and returns only when a doctor says so, in writing
  • Chennai in March and April is hot. Officials may shorten an innings, extend a break, move a start time or stop play when conditions are unsafe
  • Keep an unwell player at home

Equipment

The league provides the playing shirt. Everything a player wears for their own protection is the family's to supply: a helmet with a faceguard that fits, pads, batting gloves and an abdominal guard for batting, keeping gloves and pads for a wicket-keeper, and proper cricket footwear. An umpire will not let a player bat or keep without the right protection.

If the cost of equipment is what stands between a player and a season, please tell us before you decide against registering.

Supervision

A player is in your care until they are handed to a coach at the ground, and again from the end of their commitments that day. We are not a drop-off service. If a player needs to leave early, tell the team's coach in person. Getting to and from the ground is the family's responsibility; league staff do not transport players.

Coaching happens in the open, where it can be seen. Staff do not message players privately; anything that needs saying goes to the parent's number on the registration. Every adult in a role with players is police-verified and signs the code in the Child Safety Policy.

Eligibility and proof of age

At enrolment we sight a proof of age: an Aadhaar, a school ID, a birth certificate or a passport. We record that it was checked and by whom. We do not record the number, and we do not keep a copy or a photograph of the document. A player entered in the wrong age band is moved to the right one.

Photographs and streaming

Every match is streamed live on YouTube and Facebook, so players on the field appear in the stream. Photographs are covered by two separate consents, a coaching record and public use, and one does not imply the other. You can withdraw either at any time, and if a published photograph should come down, email us. You do not need to give a reason.

Raising a concern

Email info@elitecricketacademy.co.in or call +91 93846 63776. We acknowledge it, look into it, and tell you what we found. Anything about a child's safety goes straight to the League Director and is dealt with immediately.

The full policies, and the Child Safety Policy, are on vecl.in.

This update is kept as it was published. For the current dates, clubs and costs, see Season 1.
